The 2023 Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) Prizes were revealed on Tuesday during an award ceremony in Seoul, South Korea, where China Media Group (CMG) was honored with five awards.
The cultural program "Journey of Chinese Art on the Scroll" won the Prize under the TV Entertainment category. The program presents classic Chinese paintings and poetry in a sublime fusion of virtual reality, in which the country's top art academics, musicians, dancers, and actors interpret the masterpieces in their own artistic language and take viewers on an immersive artistic journey that breaks the boundaries of time and space.
CMG's inaugural Dunhuang-themed English multimedia product "Why We Love Dunhuang" was the 2023 Digital Media Winner. The product, designed for international audiences, encompasses a range of formats, including audio podcasts, graphic posters, short videos, online live broadcasts, interactive H5 pages, and online events. It aims to vividly and engagingly introduce the thousand-year-old history, culture, art, and religious values of Dunhuang, as well as its significant role in human cultural exchange and cross-cultural interactions.
Children's radio drama "The Swallows Flying South – Episode I: It's Time to Fly" produced by CMG won the ABU Prize under the Radio Drama category. The program approaches the content from a child's perspective, skillfully blending captivating storylines with vibrant educational information.
Radio ABU Perspective Award goes to "Home." By tracing the life journey of young people of the Evenki ethnic group born in the wilderness, raised in the city, and later returning to the Greater Khingan Mountains, the program "Home" effectively portrays the determination and aspirations of the younger generation among the Evenki people.
Lin Xi, radio host of the Voice of China, the flagship radio channel of China National Radio, won the ABU Prize under the Radio On-Air Personality category for her representative work "When There's a Piano in the Heart."
CMG's programs "The Pulse" and "Finding Peace in Dying and Living: Hospice Care Services for Patients and Their Families" were listed as 2023 Commended Entries.
Established in 1964 as a not-for-profit, non-government, non-political, professional association of broadcasters and broadcast media players, the ABU has become a media powerhouse in the most dynamic region in the world.
This year, a total of 357 entries from around the world competed for the ABU Prizes. Sixty judges from different countries selected 64 shortlisted entries, and 15 jurors chose the final winners based on this selection.
As this year marks the fifth anniversary of CMG's establishment, it has achieved its highest number of awards in the same session of the ABU Prizes. It's also the first time that a Chinese media entity has received a major prize in the New Media category, signifying a historic breakthrough.
