China in close communication with different parties since Palestinian-Israeli conflict

China has been conducting intensive communication with the relevant parties, working hard for a ceasefire and an end to the hostilities, and calling for a return to peace since the conflict between Palestinians and Israelis broke out on October 7, according to the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the ministry, detailed China's position and efforts to help seek a resolution to the conflict at a regular press briefing in Beijing on Wednesday.

During a meeting with Prime Minister of Egypt Mostafa Madbouly, who was in Beijing for the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation on October 19, Chinese President Xi Jinping stated China's principled position on the current Palestinian-Israeli situation.

Xi stressed that the top priority is to stop the fighting as soon as possible and prevent the conflict from spreading or getting out of control and causing a severe humanitarian crisis.

The fundamental way out of the recurring Palestinian-Israeli conflicts is to implement the two-state solution, establish an independent State of Palestine and achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, the Chinese president said.

Since the start of the latest conflict, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and China's foreign minister, has conducted extensive communications with foreign ministers and senior officials of 14 countries and the heads of international organizations such as UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Wang Yi said the international community must act with a sense of urgency, the United Nations Security Council should effectively assume its responsibilities, and countries outside the region, especially major countries, should be objective and impartial and play a constructive role in de-escalating the tensions, according to the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The spokesperson also said Zhai Jun, China's special envoy on the Middle East issue, has recently visited Egypt, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Jordan, attended a summit on the Palestine question held in Cairo, and met with Secretary-General of the League of Arab States Ahmed Aboul Gheit, and Philippe Lazzarini, commissioner-general of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).

Zhai has made clear China's support of Arab countries carrying out mediation and urged the international community to create conditions for restarting the peace process, according to the spokesperson.

China has also provided emergency humanitarian cash assistance to the Palestinian National Authority and the UNRWA and provided food, medicine and other emergency material assistance to the Gaza Strip, said the spokesperson.
