Firefighters aided by aircraft are battling to contain a wind-driven wildfire that has damaged or destroyed at least nine buildings in rural Southern California, forcing authorities to issue evacuation orders for 4,000 residents.

The Highland Fire broke out on October 30 around 12:45 p.m. near the Riverside County hamlet of Aguanga and spread over 2,200 acres overnight without any containment, according to officials. The fire spread as the National Weather Service warned that dry and breezy weather created favorable conditions for fire growth in Southern California on October 30 and 31.
