A China-Germany forum on human rights development was held in Beijing on Tuesday, where experts from the two countries discussed efforts to promote human rights developments around the world.

The event was jointly organized by the China Foundation for Human Rights and the Friedrich-Ebert Foundation based in Germany.

Herta Daubler-Gmelin, who served as the German justice minister from 1998 to 2002 has been a consistent participant in the exchange since its inception in 1999. Gmelin stressed that it should not be avoided to talk about the fact China and Germany have differences in their perspectives on human rights, and that building cooperation and finding a common ground through those differences is very important.

China said subsistence and development are basic human rights, and the country works to promote human rights for all through the likes of the Global Development Initiative, the Belt and Road initiative, and support for South-South cooperation.
