Wang Yi speaks with Omani counterpart on Palestinian-Israeli conflict

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday spoke with his Omani counterpart over the phone on the ongoing conflict between the Palestinians and Israelis.

Noting that China is taking over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council starting today for this month, Wang said the Chinese side will strengthen coordination with all parties, especially Arab countries, to uphold justice, build consensus, and make unremitting efforts to de-escalate the situation, protect civilians, ease the humanitarian situation, and restore the peace process.

With the situation in Gaza deteriorating day by day and the number of civilian casualties rising continuously, any country of conscience and responsibility will not allow such a tragedy to continue, said Wang, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee.

China supports the convening of a more authoritative, larger-scale and effective international peace conference as soon as possible to push the Palestine question back to the track of the two-state solution, he said.

For his part, Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi said he highly appreciates China's fair and constructive stance on the Palestine question.

With a high degree of alignment with China's position, the Arab side believes that dialogue is the only way to solve the question and hopes to restart the Middle East peace process as soon as possible, he said.
