China's first domestically-produced LNG storage tank of 270,000 cubic meters was put into operation in Qingdao, Shandong Province, on Thursday.
It is the largest LNG storage tank in the country, which has significantly increased the supply capability in north China.
The tank has a diameter of 100.6 meters and a height of 55 meters. The space of the tank is large enough to accommodate a domestic C919 passenger aircraft.
Wu Bin, general manager of Qingdao LNG terminal, a subsidiary of Sinopec's LNG branch, said the team has developed the LNG tank and expanded the use of domestic components to 95 percent.
The operation of the new tank has effectively improved the local LNG supply capability which can meet the demand of 2.16 million households in winter for five months.
The Qingdao LNG terminal is the only LNG terminal in service in Shandong Province, covering several provinces including Shandong, Jiangsu, Anhui, Hebei and Henan, a main LNG supply source for north China.
