China is willing to communicate closely with all parties and make efforts to cool down the situation as soon as possible, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said in relation to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict on Thursday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during a phone conversation with Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
China strongly condemns the attack on the refugee camps in the Gaza Strip, Wang said.
The lives of Palestinian and Israeli people are equally important, there should be no double standards in this regard and humanitarian disasters should not continue, he added.
China appreciates Jordan's long-term active promotion of Palestinian-Israeli peace talks and its proposal on behalf of Arab countries to draft a UN General Assembly resolution on the conflict, Wang said.
As the rotating chair of the Security Council this month, China is willing to communicate closely with all parties and make every effort to build a consensus and cool down the situation as soon as possible, Wang noted.
"We must strive to achieve a ceasefire and ensure smooth humanitarian relief channels," he added.
Meanwhile, a more authoritative international peace conference should be convened as soon as possible to reach a new consensus on restarting and implementing the "two-state solution" and formulating a specific timetable and road map, Wang added.
For his part, Safadi expressed his gratitude to China for upholding fairness and justice on the Palestinian issue and supporting the resolution adopted by the emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"Peace is the only option," Safadi said.
Jordan condemns all actions that harm civilians, calls for an early ceasefire and an end to the war, and deliveries of humanitarian relief supplies to Gaza. "We are willing to work with China to promote the implementation of the 'two-state solution' and safeguard regional peace and stability," he added.
