Inter Miami have reached an agreement with Uruguay's veteran Luis Suarez for him to join the Major League Soccer (MLS) club after leaving Gremio in December, ESPN reported on Friday.

Though Suarez signed a two-year contract when he joined Gremio in December 2022, the two sides agreed in September for the 36-year-old to depart at the end of the Brazilian Serie A season. He got 10 goals and 10 assists in 31 games for the club this season.

ESPN revealed that Suarez signed a one-year deal with Miami and it includes the option of renewing itself for another year after he inks it.

Suarez will join his old teammates from Barcelona, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, and, most importantly, Lionel Messi, in Miami. Having played 283 games for Barca in six seasons between 2014 and 2020, Suarez scored 195 goals and delivered 113 assists for the La Liga powerhouse, helping them win four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey championships and one UEFA Champions League title.

The attacking combination of Messi, Suarez and Neymar made one of the most powerful trios in football history, though the three only played together for three seasons.

Suarez made his name known in Europe after getting 111 goals and 68 assists for Ajax in four seasons between 2007 and 2011. Liverpool paid 26.5 million euros (about $28.5 million) to bring him to Anfield in January 2011. He grew into a top scorer in Liverpool and drew attention from Barca, which paid 81.72 million euros (about $87.7 million) to land him.

Suarez is also the all-time scoring leader of the Uruguayan national team, for which he scored 68 goals in 137 appearances. He participated in four editions of the FIFA World Cup on behalf of the country and reached the semifinals in 2010 in South Africa.
