Two-time Super Bowl champion quarterback (QB) Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs has expressed a strong interest in playing flag football at the Summer Olympic Games in Los Angeles in 2028.

"I definitely want to. But I've seen some of those guys play the flag football. They're a little faster than I am," he said, according to the Associated Press. "I know there's not like linemen blocking for you. I'll be 31, 32 years old. So if I can still move around then, I'm going to try to get out there and throw the football around maybe in LA."

As a less violent version of American football, flag football was officially added to the Games in 2028 in mid-October. It's a 5-on-5 competition on a 50-yard field with no offensive or defensive linemen. Tackles will be made by pulling a flag off a belt worn by the player.

In his seventh season in the National Football League (NFL), Mahomes tallied 26,498 passing yards with 207 touchdowns. He is not a super athletic QB, but he often makes magical plays via running. He has been selected for the Pro Bowl five times, the First-team All-Pro twice, and the Second-team All-Pro once. He is a two-time NFL passing touchdowns leader, the passing yards leader in 2022 and the offensive player of the year in 2018.

Mahomes has won two NFL Most Valuable Player (MVP) awards and won both Super Bowls as the Super Bowl MVP.

Izell Reese, president and CEO of RCX Sports that helped the NFL organize the flag football event during last season's Pro Bowl, said that Mahomes will be his choice for the sport at the Olympics. He wants the NFL players' appearances at the Olympics to do the same to flag football as what the "Dream Team's" dominance in the Olympic Games in 1992 did to basketball.

"Look at basketball, we have NBA guys but you have these other teams that are giving Team USA a run for their money," Reese said. "I think that adds to the intrigue of it."
