Editor's Note: As China's Belt and Road Initiative celebrates its 10th anniversary, one flagship infrastructure projects best epitomizes the solid bond between two countries on the African continent, namely Kenya's Mombasa-Nairobi Standard Gauge Railway (SGR). But the China-Kenya relations go beyond trade and investment. In this edition of Leaders Talk, CMG's Wang Guan sat down with Kenyan President William Ruto to delve into what he calls the "BRI conversation" has achieved and how it provides a vision for the 21st century. He categorically refutes the "debt trap" narrative, calling it a "myth" and a "rumor." He also insists on fostering cultural and people-to-people exchanges as a way to build bridges and deepen friendship. President Ruto believes that countries should choose their own paths to development but says that we all share a common destiny. On a more personal note, President Ruto looks back at his career in politics from humble beginnings, and hopes to inspire the younger generation.
