As an integral part of traditional Chinese culture, jade is believed by both the ancient and modern Chinese as the essence of nature. Its intrinsic elegance, soft smoothness, and purity resonate with the spiritual pursuits of Chinese people. Made into various forms – from ritual implements to artistic works – jade has also witnessed the evolution of the Chinese civilization and carries with it China's inherent spirit and values.
First curated in 2010 by the National Museum in Beijing, the jade-themed exhibition showcases jade objects dating from ancient times to the Qing Dynasty (1644–1911) to highlight the cultural and artistic values of these mysterious stones from the East.
