Editor's note: The sixth China International Import Expo (CIIE) is being held in Shanghai from November 5 to 10. While some U.S. government officials and media are hyping U.S.-China decoupling, China, guided by the principles of multilateralism, is welcoming business representatives and leaders from other countries including the U.S. to participate in the CIIE. What benefits has China's development brought to the people of the country and the world? To explain the concept of China's development, CGTN and China Institute for Innovation and Development Strategy (CIIDS) have launched the "Chinese modernization: Sharing prosperity" series. In this episode, former Bulgarian President Rosen Asenov Plevneliev shared his thoughts on this topic. The views expressed in the video are his own and not necessarily those of CGTN.
As the Chinese development plan transforms the region and the world, today a lot of politicians, journalists, and public opinion makers in the West speak about the "new Cold War" between the U.S. and China. This is completely wrong. Such perception doesn't capture the complexity of today's world.
China today is deeply integrated into the world economy. It is the world's leading trading nation and the biggest export power in the world. Having strong and fair-trading relationships with China is a top priority for the leading global economies.
For example, the largest American and European companies desperately need the Chinese market. On the other side, China is producing quality goods with fair pricing and needs American and European consumers for its economic growth and development. That is why the American administration is doing wrong by drawing heavy dividing lines in the international system.
The opposite is true. Strong China makes the world stronger. Green China makes the world greener. Modern and prosperous China supporting multilateralism and promoting win-win cooperation contributes to a more peaceful and prosperous world.
China is a rapidly developing giant in economy and geopolitics with high growth rates, remarkable poverty reduction, even elimination, intensive industrialization and urban development. The results we see are astonishing. We have never seen hundreds of millions of people lifted out of poverty in less than two decades.
China is on the part of cutting-edge technological modernization, combined with higher quality development, better environmental protection, and improved social well-being for all.
China should continue modernizing at a high speed. China should be ambitious to create a green and sustainable economy, preserve nature and habitat and decarbonize to reach net-zero emissions.
