A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Friday welcomed the vision of the Group of Seven (G7) for establishing a constructive and stable G7-China relationship as foreign ministers of the seven member countries meet in Japan.
"We hope that the G7 member states will truly implement the above statements and effectively promote the healthy development of their relations with China on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," said Wang Wenbin, spokesperson for the ministry.
Wang then slammed the bloc's remarks on China's "economic coercion," calling the allegations "groundless." "The Group of Seven countries should reflect on themselves," Wang said, mentioning their politicization and militarization of global trade.
The spokesperson also denounced the bloc's actions for interfering in China's internal affairs, specifically on the South China Sea issue, Taiwan question, and issues related to China's Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong. He urged the G7 to abide by the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and the basic norms of international relations, and to "mind their own business."
