The third discharge of nuclear-contaminated water into the sea from the tsunami-damaged Fukushima nuclear power plant began on November 2, after Japanese officials said the two earlier releases ended smoothly.

As with the first and second releases, conducted between August and October, Tokyo Electric Power Company, the plant's operator, said it will release around 7,800 tonnes of the radioactive wastewater in this round.

A CGTN Stringer took to the streets of Canada recently to collect opinions on the matter. Locals shared their worries and opposition to Japan's approach. Maitri Shah, a Canadian financial analyst, said the Japanese government should have reached consensus with other countries before the dumping, because the environment and the people will eventually take the brunt of its decision.
