China, France share experience in nuclear energy development

It is important for China and France to share their experiences in the sustainable development of nuclear energy in the two countries, said participants of a recent international symposium in Beijing.
The China-France International Symposium on Innovative Development of Nuclear Energy was held in Beijing from November 7 to 9, 2023, discussing key contents of a blue book on nuclear energy and low-carbon development.
In April, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) and Electricite De France (EDF) on a joint prospective study for technology development and market trends, as well as a blue book to show the countries' common ground in addressing climate change and energy issues.
Organized by the CNNC Strategic Planning Research Institute, the symposium gathered leaders of CNNC and EDF, and representatives of key companies and research institutes in China's nuclear energy industry.
Participants all agreed that the joint preparation of the blue book is of great strategic significance to the long-term nuclear energy cooperation between China and France.
They shared their practical experiences in an open manner, and also exchanged views on key issues such as long-term operation of nuclear power plants and adaptation to climate change, decommissioning, and nuclear fuel supply.
