Chinese cyclists win 2023 Yunnan Granfondo race

Li Pengcheng and Li Si, both from China, won the men's and the women's categories respectively at the 2023 Colorful Yunnan Granfondo Cycling Festival in Lijiang, southwest China's Yunnan Province, on Friday.

Lijiang was the final stage of the 100-km race, with an average altitude of more than 2,500 meters, which was the highest one in all four stages with a number of difficult climbs and sharp turns.

Li Pengcheng completed his race in three hours, 17 minutes and 22 seconds, and Li Si finished her race in 3:57:07.

"It's a happy feeling to get the title. I am so excited to win the final stage because Lijiang is the most challenging stage, everyone who finished the race is a hero," Li Pengcheng said.

The six-day event covers 361.5 kilometers and encompasses a variety of terrain across Yuxi, Chuxiong, Dali and Lijiang. The festival attracted more than 4,000 cyclists from 23 countries and regions.

The Granfondo Yunnan is in its tenth year. Its name, Granfondo, originating from Italy, means long-distance.
