China's Ning Zhongyan wins men's 1,500m bronze at speed skating World Cup in Obihiro

China's Ning Zhongyan clinched the men's 1,500 bronze medal at the ISU Speed Skating World Cup Obihiro leg on Saturday, after winning a silver in the 1,000m event a day earlier.

Local Masaya Yamada pocketed his second gold medal in Obihiro with one minute and 45.57 seconds, 0.02 seconds clear of Jordan Stolz of the U.S. in second place. Yamada also bested Ning earlier in the 1,000m final. They clocked 1:08.35 and 1:08:54, respectively, to finish 1-2. 

In the women's 1,500m final, Japan's Olympic champion Miho Takagi took the title with 1:54.54, 1.69 seconds ahead of Antoinette Rijpma-De Jong of the Netherlands and 2.02 seconds ahead of American Kimi Goetz. China's Li Qishi and Han Mei finished 4th and 8th, respectively, in the event.

Takagi went on to win her second gold of the day in the women's team pursuit event, clocking 2:58.03 with teammates Momoka Horikawa and Ayano Sato, followed by Canada and the Netherlands.

In the men's team pursuit, Norway's Sander Eitrem, Peder Kongshaug and Sverre Pedersen won the title in three minutes and 40.83 seconds.
