Rongjiang in Guizhou Province was one of the last counties in China to be lifted out of poverty. Recently, Rongjiang has gone viral on the internet, due to the enormous popularity of the Village Super League, which it hosts. Top scorer this year is Dong Yongheng from Zhongcheng Village. A purveyor of rice noodle rolls by day, at night he trains alongside his teammates – farmers, teachers, restaurateurs and electricity workers. Their passion for football has inspired an online following numbering tens of millions across China. The Village Super League has also given a big boost to the local economy.
