Bills fire offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after losing to Broncos

The Buffalo Bills have fired their offensive coordinator Ken Dorsey after the 24-22 loss to the Denver Broncos at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park, New York, on Monday, and put their quarterback (QB) coach Joe Brady in the position on interim basis.

"There's been times when we have moved the ball and scored points, but those times, I believe, have become few and far between," the Bills' head coach Sean McDermott said on Tuesday. "I can point to the Miami game [in Week 4], which I felt very good about, obviously, we scored on just about, if not every, drive there. But since that Miami game, and really, before that, there were some times when I didn't feel like we were moving the ball well enough and scoring points."

The Bills' chaotic offense that produced four turnovers and four drops against the Broncos was part of the reason behind their loss on Monday as well as Dorsey's removal. Meanwhile, as one of the Super Bowl champion candidates in many people's eyes ahead of the 2023 National Football League (NFL) season, the Bills are 5-5 at the moment, not even the most hopeful team to make the playoffs. The team needs blame that on someone.

"Josh [Allen] and I speak daily. And this decision was made by me alone [to fire Dorsey]," McDermott said. "Beyond that, it's Josh's responsibility and job to come out and help Coach Brady formulate the game plan and to come out and execute the game plan and take care of the football and be our offense more than anything."

Dorsey became the Bills' offensive coordinator in 2022. Their QB Josh Allen has got 33 turnovers since then, six more than the next in the line during the same period of time, Trevor Lawrence of the Jacksonville Jaguars. 14 of those turnovers happened this season and made him the turnovers leader of all QBs, two more than Mac Jones of the New England Patriots and Desmond Ridder of the Atlanta Falcons.

"Some of this is a projection and also want to see what [Brady] can do in this role," McDermott said. "He has a close relationship with Josh as the quarterback coach, and we've talked ... he's got some ideas and we'll see where it goes from here."
