The pilot of a single-engine plane has died following a crash in a shopping center parking lot in Plato in the U.S. state of Texas Tuesday evening, CBS News reported.

"The plane did not actually land on or collide with anything," said Plano Fire-Rescue Public Information Officer Daniel Daly. "However, the fire resulting from the crash did involve an unoccupied parked vehicle."

The Federal Aviation Administration along with the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash, the report added.
