Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Uruguayan President Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou in Beijing on Wednesday. 

Xi said the year 2023 is a special year in the history of China-Uruguay relations, as it marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, the fifth anniversary of Uruguay's participation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, and also the 30th anniversary of the visit to China by former President Luis Alberto Lacalle Herrera, father of Luis Alberto Lacalle Pou and an old friend of the Chinese people. 

Xi stressed that President Lacalle Pou's visit to China is of great significance.
