Iceland is bracing for a possible volcano eruption as magma moving underground in the country's southwest threatens to breach the surface and begin flowing across the landscape after hundreds of earthquakes rumbled the region for weeks. The possible volcanic eruption threatens a geothermal power plant that supplies energy to tens of thousands of homes. Different from previous estimations, the coastal town  of Grindavík – where more than 3,000 people have been evacuated – is now less likely to be affected.

The Icelandic authorities lowered the public safety level in Grindavík from an emergency level to a danger level at 11 a.m. local time on Thursday.

CGTN correspondent Johannes Pleschberger is in Grindavik, Iceland and brings the latest updates on the possible volcanic eruption.
