China-France carbon neutrality center launched to boost green tech

CGTN

The center for the cooperation between China and France on carbon neutrality has been launched on Friday.

Wang Yi, the foreign minister of China, and his French counterpart Catherine Colonna witnessed the opening ceremony.

"The establishment of the center is a key agreement reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and French President Emmanuel Macron," said Wang Yi. "It is a strong signal of the two countries working together to advance green technology and respond to climate change."

Wang said China and France have been taking the lead in responding to climate change by pushing forward the Paris accord eight years ago and by exchanges recently for the incoming COP28 climate summit in Dubai.

"China is willing to work with the French side to take the lead in new green technologies and benefit the entire human race," he said, adding that he hoped the experts from both countries would contribute their wisdom to a green, low-carbon future.

Colonna said the heads of the two countries have agreed on climate change responses and protection of biodiversity. The opening of the center reflects both countries' ambition to promote low-carbon development, protect the environment and serve the common interests of humanity.

The French site is willing to strengthen communications with the Chinese side and make the Dubai summit a success, Colonna said.
