China and Croatia are far apart, but they were connected by the ancient Silk Road more than 700 years ago. In recent years, this beautiful country on the Adriatic Sea has become an important landmark of the Belt and Road Initiative. In 2022, the Peljesac Bridge, built by the China Road and Bridge Corporation, was officially completed and opened to traffic on July 26. The bridge across the Bay of Mali Ston of the Adriatic Sea connects the northern and southern lands of Croatia and has become a symbol of friendship and cooperation between Croatia and China.
Beijing Foreign Studies University students visited the Croatia branch of China Road and Bridge Corporation, talking with Hai Tao, the head of the company, about the changes the Peljesac Bridge has brought to local people's lives. He mentioned that it used to take three hours to travel to Dubrovnik, yet now it takes only half an hour to cross the Peljesac Bridge. The bridge saves residents time, promotes local tourism development and increases job opportunities.
