A screen, a projector, a few benches... This is a memory shared by generations of China's rural residents who watched movies brought to their villages by traveling projectionists. These days, there are still projectionists plying their trade among remoter communities and villages. Their work remains much the same – carrying their equipment from place to place, advertising an upcoming movie through a loudspeaker, and climbing up and down to set up the screen. What's different is that digitalization is making the latest movies available in even the most far-flung places. Together, the projectionists and their audiences are witnessing a golden age of Chinese cinema.
