The 2023 Tongzhou Global Development Forum held recently in Beijing and themed "Working Together for Global Development and a Common Future" drew policymakers, representatives of international agencies and academics from China and abroad. They mulled over the current challenges hindering global development and proposed new solutions and approaches. Wang Guan sat down with Li Cheng, professor of political science and founding director of the Center on Contemporary China and the World at the University of Hong Kong. He's also the former director at the Brookings Institution's John L. Thornton China Center. He summed up the main takeaway from the recent Xi-Biden meeting. Will China-U.S. relations stabilize? What will the "San Francisco Vision" bring about? Li also stressed the importance for Beijing and Washington to make efforts in preventing challenges on the Taiwan question becoming bigger flashpoints in the bilateral relationship.
