Uruguay, as the first Latin American and Caribbean country to wish to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), has opened up new avenues for cooperation with China. Despite the geographical distance between the two nations, China has been Uruguay's largest trading partner for years. President Luis Lacalle Pou of Uruguay emphasized the potential for further collaboration between the two nations.
