Yuansi Village in Chizhou, Anhui Province can trace its history back 1,000 years. Former teacher Zhang Xinjing has developed a deep interest in the local culture. He is currently working with a team of retired teachers and scholars to compile the village annals. He hopes that the project, while boosting the local residents' pride in Yuansi's cultural heritage, will also create a sense of belonging among former residents who are away from home.
