Is this the best overhead kick we've seen in Premier League history?

At first glance, there seemed to be no imminent danger as Diogo Dalot delivered a cross that appeared to be overhit. However, Garnacho had a different plan in mind. With impeccable anticipation, the 19-year-old Argentine winger read the trajectory of the cross flawlessly. Taking a step back and turning away from the goal, he launched himself into the air, executing an unstoppable overhead kick that sailed into the top corner of Jordan Pickford's net, leaving the Everton goalkeeper utterly helpless.

The sheer sensationalism and incredibility of it all was heightened by the fact that this extraordinary display of dexterity and precision came from a teenager who had only scored a solitary goal across all competitions so far this season. 

For all the buzz surrounding the wonder strike, it was the heaviest sporting sanction ever imposed in Premier League history that loomed large in the lead-up to the match. Everton's record-breaking 10-point deduction fueled a pervasive sense of injustice and cast doubts on whether this seemingly vulnerable United side could handle the pressure.

Yet, the Red Devils defied expectations and emerged triumphant. And what a goal it was that ignited their victory. After Garnacho's divine intervention, a second-half penalty converted by Marcus Rashford played a pivotal role in shifting the momentum firmly in United's favor, effectively taking the game away from Everton. Credit must be given to Everton as they created numerous promising opportunities, amassing an impressive 24 attempts on goal compared to United's nine. They demonstrated adaptability in dealing with the unusual circumstances surrounding the club. Despite the challenges they face, Everton must not succumb to demoralization caused by a punishment that was not within their players' control.

In regards to United, Garnacho will rightfully dominate the headlines. He will ignite debates, earn praises, and draw comparisons. Even Sir Alex Ferguson, who famously hailed Rooney's bicycle kick against City in 2011 as the greatest goal he had witnessed at Old Trafford, would have admitted that Garnacho's goal was superior.

While it may be argued that Garnacho faced less pressure from defenders compared to Rooney, who was corralled by the formidable Vincent Kompany and Micah Richards, and that the goal may not have carried the same significance, in terms of pure technique, the young Argentinian's strike was obviously better.

Nevertheless, Ten Hag stressed the importance of Garnacho consistently conjuring such moments of brilliance in order to be mentioned in the same breath as the revered stars of Old Trafford. "Don't compare, I don't think it's right," said the tactician. "They all have their own identity. For Garnacho to go that way he has to work very hard and do it on a consistent basis. So far he has not, but he definitely has high potential to do some amazing things."

"It is not the first time we see this, we see often glimpses, but if you want to be a player like Rooney or Ronaldo you have to score 20, 25 goals in the Premier League. It's not easy to get, you have to work very hard and go in ways where it hurts. A lot to come but he has potential."

Once the dust settled, the lingering issue of United's defensive frailty remained a cause for concern, while their clinical finishing made the final scoreline appear more comfortable than it truly was. However, such matters won't bother Garnacho. The teenager's impact might just be the catalyst United need to make positive strides and overcome any obstacles that come their way.
