Eleven workers were killed and 75 injured after an accident at one of Impala Platinum's mining shafts in South Africa's Rustenburg, local media reported on Tuesday.

The incident involved a winder rope that was connected to the personnel conveyance, which hoists employees up and down the shaft, the report added, citing company spokesperson Johan Theron.

88 employees were involved in the accident, and all mining operations at Impala Rustenburg were suspended on Tuesday, the report said.
