The second phase kicks off in Wuhan shortly after the qualifying tournament for the Doha World Championships next year, with the top 12 divers in individual events and the top 6 pairs from the first phase making it into the competition from December 1 to 3.
The national championships is the second event of the three-leg qualifying process for Chinese divers to earn their berths at the Paris Olympics next year. The first leg took place in Shanghai in March this year, while the last chance to qualify will be in February next year. The two best results out of three will be counted for each individual.
Big names in China's diving team appeared undoubtedly on the winning list of the first phase. Wang Zongyuan won the men's 3m springboard and paired up with Long Daoyi for victory in the synchronized event. Chen Yiwen followed Wang's footsteps, winning the women's 3m springboard and the synchronized event with Chang Yani. Lian Junjie won the men's 10m platform, and Chen Yuxi beat her long-time rival Quan Hongchan to win in the women's event. Lian also won the synchronized 10m platform final with Yang Hao, and the women's synchronized title went to the championship duo of Chen and Quan with no surprise.
