CGTN

Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Atletico Madrid and Lazio became the latest clubs to qualify for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase on Tuesday.

Barca recovered from a one-goal deficit after veteran defender Pepe scored for Porto, with goals from Portuguese duo Joao Cancelo and Joao Felix, to win 2-1. Borussia Dortmund earned their berth with a 3-1 win at AC Milan. Atletico Madrid beat Feyenoord in a dramatic fashion with a goal from defender Mario Hermoso and two own goals from the Dutch side themselves, 3-1. Lazio, who ranked second in Group E after leaders Atletico Madrid, too secured their berth after Feyenoord's defeat, having beaten Celtic 2-0 earlier.

These four clubs joined Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Real Sociedad, Inter Milan, Manchester City and RB Leipzig as the 10 teams that have qualified for the Champions League round of 16 so far.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Kylian Mbappe made no mistake from the penalty spot to keep Paris Saint-Germain right behind leaders Borussia Dortmund with a tough 1-1 draw at home against Newcastle, with AC Milan at the bottom of the group. PSG, Newcastle and Milan all remain in contention for a last-16 berth, with the results of the sixth matchday of the group stage set to decide who will join Dortmund from the group in the next round.

Alexander Isak had put his side ahead early in the game, and PSG struggled with leveling the match till a golden opportunity presented itself when the video assistant referee (VAR) decided in stoppage time that a handball from Tino Livramento in the box was worthy of a penalty, which Mbappe, the Qatar World Cup Golden Boot winner, came to the rescue by capitalizing on the penalty to claim one point for his team.

PSG, who have consecutively reached the last 16 in the last 11 seasons, will have to beat leaders Borussia Dortmund in their final group clash to extend their campaign in the event this time. Newcastle or Milan can progress as well, provided they win their last group game, where they face each other, and PSG fail to beat Dortmund.

Elsewhere, Manchester City came back from 2-0 down to beat RB Leipzig, though both teams had already qualified.

According to the event's schedule, the round of 16 ties will be played in mid-February and the first half of March next year, while the draw will be announced on December 18.
