Huangshan Scenic Area Becomes China's First Zero-Carbon Mountainous Scenic Area

Huangshan Scenic Area has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first zero-carbon mountainous scenic area in China. This accomplishment comes after comprehensive efforts to promote zero-carbon initiatives within the area. As part of the first group of low-carbon tourism demonstration areas in the country, it has successfully achieved carbon neutrality.
The 24th meeting of the members of the China MAB (Man and the Biosphere) Programme and the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China MAB Network took place on November 28th in Huangshan, Anhui. During this event, the scenic area was recognized as a demonstration base for zero-carbon initiatives.
The scenic area has been actively implementing projects such as vegetation carbon sequestration conservation, introduction of alternative energy sources, green scenes creation, and smart tourism development. It has also introduced innovative green operation models such as bringing clean food and products up the mountain, and washing waste down the mountain, and rotational closure of scenic spots. These initiatives aim to maintain the ecological balance of the mountains while providing high-quality ecological products for over four million Chinese citizens and foreign tourists annually, successfully achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
The efforts of Huangshan Scenic Area serve as a testament to the potential for sustainable and environmentally friendly practices within the tourism industry, setting an example for other scenic areas and tourist destinations.
