The Tianshan Shengli Tunnel is the world's longest highway tunnel currently under construction. The project, which connects the southern and northern regions of China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is inspired in some ways by the ancient Qanat System, which gained national-level intangible cultural heritage status in 2014.
