The People's Liberation Army says it has conducted live-fire drills on the Chinese side of the China-Myanmar border since Saturday as fighting intensifies in the Southeast Asian nation between government and anti-government groups. Defense Ministry Spokesperson Wu Qian said on Thursday that China will remain alert to protect its borders.
WU QIAN, Spokesperson, China's Ministry of National Defense "The Chinese side is closely following the situation in northern Myanmar and has made active efforts to promote peace talks. We urge relevant parties in Myanmar to cease hostilities as soon as possible and resolve their differences through peaceful dialogue. The exercises carried out by the Southern Theater Command were held to test the troops' capabilities of rapid maneuver, border control, and fire strikes. It will help to better maintain border stability and protect people's lives and property. The PLA will remain on high alert and is prepared to respond to various emergencies."
