The first batch of China-aided power equipment was handed over to South Africa's Ministry of Electricity on Thursday. The Chinese ambassador to South Africa, South Africa's minister of electricity, and South Africa's deputy minister of health, along with about 300 South African representatives, witnessed the handover.
South Africa has been experiencing power shortage since earlier this year as a result of the breakdowns of generating units. The extensive power shortage has been affecting critical industries like food production and storage, and retail supply chain, as well as key facilities like hospitals.
