Mount Merapi, one of the most active volcanoes in Indonesia, erupted on Sunday, according to the country's Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).
Ash from Mount Merapi on the island of Sumatra was observed 3,000 meters above its peak, said the head of PVMBG Hendra Gunawan.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties after the eruption at 2:54 p.m. local time (0754 GMT).
