One person was killed and two others were injured after a magnitude-7.4 earthquake hit Surigao del Sur province in the southern Philippines on Saturday night, according to local authorities on Sunday.

The local disaster reduction office reported that a woman from Tagum City in Davao del Norte province was killed when a wall of her house collapsed. Her husband and child were injured.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology issued a tsunami warning on Saturday night, prompting residents living in the coastal areas close to the epicenter to evacuate to higher ground or move farther inland. The residents returned home after the institute lifted the tsunami alert.

Japan's Meteorological Agency also lifted its tsunami advisory for the country's Pacific coastal areas following Saturday's strong quake in the Philippines.
