Oceans are the home of marine life and humans. A sub-forum themed "Ocean and Biodiversity" at the Asia Philanthropy Forum was held in Haikou, south China's Hainan Province in late November. The forum focused on practices of marine biodiversity conservation, with experts calling for specific projects.
According to World Animal Protection, 640,000 tonnes of "ghost gear," or discarded nets and fishing gear, injure or kill around 136,000 marine animals every year.
Sun Quanhui, a scientist from World Animal Protection, shared experiences of marine life conservation projects such as the "Global Ghost Gear Initiative" and the "Whale Heritage Site program."
Following the idea that "wildlife belongs to the wild," Sun also shared practical tips on how to protect the oceans.
