Located in Maqen County of Golog Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, northwest China's Qinghai Province, Amne Machin is the largest snow mountain at the headstream of the Yellow River.
Covered in snow all year, its highest peak under the same name is 6,282 meters tall. The snow mountain is endowed with 74 glaciers, covering an area of about 102 square kilometers, according to a survey in 2014. The melt water is an important water source for local people, thus it is worshiped by people on the plateau.
