The 2023 Understanding China Conference (Guangzhou) was held in China's Guangdong Province on December 1-3, 2023. During the luncheon speech at the conference, Cui Tiankai, former Chinese ambassador to the U.S., questioned the U.S.'s position on the Taiwan question: "Is the U.S. willing to openly declare its support for China's peaceful reunification? It seems like the U.S. always evades and avoids making such statements. Is it reluctant to see China reunified? Or does it have reservations about the peaceful means?"
