China's State Post Bureau (SPB) said on Tuesday that the country's annual express delivery volume has surpassed 120 billion as of December 4 this year, hitting a record high.

The SPB said the record demonstrated sustained growth momentum in the consumption market, and added that the annual express delivery volume has exceeded 100 billion for three consecutive years since 2021.

China's market sales have grown more rapidly this year, accompanied by a rapid expansion in service consumption, demonstrating the unique advantages of the super large-scale economy, said Bian Zuodong, deputy director at the Department of Market Supervision and Inspection at the SPB.

"It not only provides opportunities for the courier industry to better play its supportive role, but also offers potential opportunities and vitality for its sustained high-quality development, Bian added.

According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, China's online retail sales of tangible goods stood at 10.3 trillion yuan (around $1.45 trillion) in the first 10 months, a year-on-year increase of 8.4 percent, which made up 45.2 percent of the total retail sales of consumer goods.
