China's first giant 'ro-ro' ship begins maiden voyage

01:04

China's first large car carrier ship was put into operation on Monday, with a naming and maiden voyage ceremony in Shanghai.

The ship, named "Jiuyang Blossom," boasts a carrying capacity of 7,000 cars, started its maiden voyage from Shanghai Nangang Terminal to the Waigaoqiao Port Area, carrying 3,000 Hyundai and Lincoln vehicles. The vehicles can "roll-on and roll-off" hence the ship is called a "ro-ro" vessel.
