China said on Tuesday that its visa-free entry policy has brought tangible convenience to citizens of five European Union countries and Malaysia.
The remarks were made by the spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, Wang Wenbin, at a regular press briefing when asked about an update on the policy, which allows citizens from France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and Malaysia to do business, sightseeing and visit relatives and friends, and transit for up to 15 days in China without applying for a visa.
Wang noted that a total of 18,000 people entered China in the first three days after the foreign ministry announced the visa-free entry policy on December 1.
Among them, nearly 7,000 enjoyed visa-free entry, accounting for 39 percent of the total arrivals from the six countries.
The spokesperson said the ministry will continue to optimize the policy, actively create favorable conditions and further facilitate the flow of people between China and other countries.
