A flower has blossomed into a unique shape in the forest of Maoming City in southern China's Guangdong Province. Its big pocket-shaped petals resemble a fairy's slippers, hence the moniker that literally means "Hong Kong lady's slipper orchid." The orchid does not produce nectar but it has its own trick to attract pollinators: deceiving hover flies. Watch the video to learn more.
About 'Journeys in Nature: Guangdong Maoming Series'
Maoming City is a biodiversity hub in south China's Guangdong Province. Leaning against the Yunkai Mountains, one of the largest mountain ranges in Guangdong, and facing the South China Sea, the city is endowed with a wet tropical climate, which has attracted numerous wild animal and plant species.
