In a world where fossil fuel consumption has predominantly been driven by the developed nations, it's crucial that they bear the responsibility for repairing the damage caused, said Hindou Oumarou Ibrahim, president of the Association for Indigenous Women and Peoples of Chad. She adds that the failure to reverse the damage will result in catastrophic consequences, with temperatures in some communities reaching unbearable levels of 55 to 60 degrees Celsius. We cannot afford to become climate refugees, losing our dignity and our land, she said.
