The World 5G Convention kicked off in Zhengzhou, central China's Henan Province, on Wednesday. This year's convention was themed "5G+By All For All."

By the end of 2022, 5G network had covered 102 countries and regions across all continents, and about 33.1 percent of global population. It is expected that 5G network will cover almost all countries and regions in the world by 2030.

While global smartphone shipments declined, global 5G smartphone shipments increased 32.6 percent to over 700 million in 2022.

The number of global 5G connections exceeded 1.01 billion by the end of 2022, and the number of 5G connections in China reached 561 million, accounting for more than half, ranking first in the world.

The market size of China's 5G communications was approximately 1.89 trillion yuan in 2022, according to Telecommunication Development Industry Alliance. Investment in China's 5G industry has exceeded 180 billion yuan for two consecutive years.

Data from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology showed that 5G directly drives total economic output of 1.45 trillion yuan and economic added value of 392.9 billion yuan in 2022.
