A herd of wapities were caught relaxing and foraging for food in a forest on camera recently in Hexigten Banner, north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
The wapiti, which is under national second-class protection, has never been seen in the area before. As the Hunshandake Sandland, one of China's major sandy lands, improves its ecological environment by increasing its forest and vegetation coverage for decades and strengthening ecological supervision, the environment of Hexigten Banner, located in the east of it, has also been greatly improved, with more and more rare wild animals living there.
