West Ham stun Tottenham, Everton out of bottom three

Tottenham Hotspur, who have slumped to fifth place in the Premier League after a dreamy start to the season, suffered another defeat on Thursday against visitors West Ham 2-1 as their winless run extended to five matches. Spurs have only pocketed one point from these five games, despite leading by an early goal on each occasion.

West Ham were completely outplayed in the opening half, in which the returning Cristian Romero's header was a scant reward for Tottenham's dominance. However, the visitors were much improved after the break, and Jarrod Bowen's equalizer in the 52nd minute changed the complexion of the derby as Tottenham's early confidence ebbed away.

Tottenham then self-destructed in the 74th minute when Destiny Udogie's under-hit back pass caused chaos and James Ward-Prowse tucked in a rebound after his initial shot rebounded back to him off the post.

West Ham comfortably soaked up some late Tottenham pressure and held on for a victory that moved them within three points of their London rivals.

Meanwhile, Everton claimed a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United to move out of the Premier League relegation zone with late goals from Dwight McNeil, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Beto in the 79th minute, 86th minute, and six minutes into stoppage time, respectively.

It was a deserved win for the Merseysiders against a depleted Newcastle, who have now lost as many games this season, five, as in the whole of the last campaign, and with a long injury list that has left them with 12 players sidelined.

McNeil robbed Kieran Trippier of the ball before unleashing a powerful left-footed drive into the far corner of the net with 12 minutes remaining.

The England fullback again lost possession, and Jack Harrison's cross found Doucoure, who side-footed home, before Beto's first Premier League goal came in stoppage time.

The defeat leaves Newcastle in seventh place with 26 points from 15 games amid a worsening away record, while Everton, stung by a 10-point deduction by the Premier League, move into 17th with 10 points from 15 games. Without the points deduction, they would be in 10th place.
