On December 8, local time, the United States vetoed a UN Security Council resolution demanding an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. Zhang Jun, China's permanent representative to the UN, said China is deeply disappointed and regrets that the resolution was vetoed by the United States. "It is extremely hypocritical to both tolerate the continuation of the conflict and pay lip service to the protection of women, children, and human rights," said Zhang.
